Evening Street Ramble [2010-02-03 16:53:00.0]
After dinner, I went out for a walk, when I passed by a street corner I heard a woman talked to two other women in a loud and proud voice ´my son-in-law is great, he receives over two thousand yuan per month...´ I did not stop to listen to the rest of their conversation but walked on crossing the street, and thought to myself: Why! I receive five thousand a month, yet I feel ashamed of myself for such low salary. Oh, you proud woman - but keep being proud, cause a contented mind with two thousan

Waking up last night, I heard distinctively a woman’s sad cry from above my apartment. The cry was, for a time, a low sobbing, suddenly exploded into several hysterical screams before it lapsed into an intermittent wailing.

And, oh, the crowd! the public buses and subway trains never fail to fill me with horror at the terrific crowdedness in them, especially when going to work in the morning and coming home in the afternoon. To say people here are
